LUCIDO - The Newest Craft to Hit Town!

A range of 6 metal templates with co-ordinating peel-off stickers and background papers. You use the templates to cut out shapes from coordinating papers which are arranged together to create the final pattern on the template. The peel-off outlines are designed to exactly fit over the top of your paper cut outs covering up the joins. The templates and peel-offs then also give a range of ways of adding embellishments to finish off the card

OUR VERDICT

QUALITY OF INSTRUCTIONS

As is so often the case with templates from Holland, the instructions are extremely brief and difficult to follow. So let us help…scroll to the bottom of this page for fuller step by step instructions

COMPLEXITY

As with many crafts, once you’ve successfully made your first Lucido card, it is quite straightforward to apply the principles to a new template and stickers. There is a fair bit of effort that goes into producing each card, so it’s a craft that will appeal to those who like detail and have patience

PRODUCT RANGE

There are 6 templates and matching peel-off patterns with 8 double background paper combinations. The template pattern choice is good – 2 of the 6 have a Christmas flavour – and the others could be given a Christmas twist with clever selection of papers and embellishments. The background papers look better when they are made up than on the flat sheets and would be useful for iris folders.

VALUE FOR MONEY

Lucido is subtitled as Paper Patchwork but the templates offer more than this description implies. Each one has a nice range of embossing motifs many of which will be a useful addition to your range of brass templates and also some nice prick and stitch patterns which could form the main basis of a card design if used creatively. Select your template carefully so you get the widest range of uses for your own personal style of cards.

OVERALL IMPRESSIONS

A craft you will love or hate doing – it is likely to particularly appeal to crafters who enjoy embroidered cards, iris folding and tea bag folding. The cards produced can look stunning, our favourite template in this initial range is the multi pointed star which can be used all year round and has some very effective stitching patterns. We expect to get good value from the templates by using them in less obvious ways. We’ll put the results on display in the shop.

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS!

  1. Look at the photo on the front top right of the packaging to see what you are aiming to achieve. Select the range of backing papers you want to cut your shapes from.
  2. Draw round the template on the relevant papers and cut them out. We suggest that you use a fine point pencil to trace the outlines through the template to be cut out. Remember if the pattern of your template is not symmetrical like the holly leaves, you must get the template the right way round before you draw it on the paper to cut out – don’t laugh, we learnt this one the hard way!!!
  3. Draw round the main template shape on your card in the final position you want your pattern to give you a guide to work to.
  4. Glue the back of your paper pieces and position them jigsaw fashion into the guide pattern you drew in step 3.
  5. Take the relevant peel off outlines and position them over the top of the glued paper shapes to cover the joins.
  6. Prick the holes and stitch as shown on the front of the template securing the ends of your thread on the reverse of your card using sellotape. Metallic threads like Alcazar or Reflecta look particularly good.
  7. Chose your finishing methods – either use one or more of the template patterns to emboss or stencil a border or select some of the gold peel offs to embellish the finished pattern
